Miss Communication

It's a running gag that the communications field is very diverse. With a degree in communications, you can work in almost any field, for almost anyone, doing almost anything. But that's not what parents want to hear when they ask, "what exactly do you DO?"

So here's a (non-inclusive) list of what communications majors can get into:

  • Event planner
  • Crisis manager
  • Editor
  • Technical writor
  • Public relations manager
  • News writer
  • lobbyist
  • Public Information Office Writer
  • Community Affairs Liaison
And there are so many more!

What job(s) are you expecting to get into with your communiations degree?

  1. Other job titles are public relations specialist, press secretary, public affairs specialist, public affairs officer, promotion assistant, communications specialist and publicist. Some jobs I held were communications specialist, public relations coordinator, deputy press secretary, and associate director.

  2. Great blog. I believe there should be more information like this for college students. Many students major in something and doesnt have a clue what what to do with thier degree.

  3. That is exactly why I chose communications as a major. I have been told that with this degree, one needs to have a specilaization. I'm choosing to couple my degree with a heavy science background and remain in the food industry as a public relations manager.
